Replace and Install a Bathroom Vanity With Ease

Replacing and installing a new bathroom vanity can seem impossible to do yourself. However, with the right knowledge and tools, the process can be surprisingly simple. Measure and Shop

The first step is to measure your space. It’s important to do this before shopping for a vanity to ensure you’re getting a vanity that will fit in your bathroom. It’s always a good idea to measure twice—just to be sure. If your vanity has a top component, make sure your measurements include its dimensions.

Once you’ve measured, it’s time to pick out your new vanity. You’ll need to decide if you want a vanity with an attached top, and whether a faucet is included or what type of faucet would fit. When choosing a countertop material, it’s important to take into consideration a material’s durability, longevity, and style.

Remove Your Old Vanity

Before removing your old vanity, locate the water shut off valve, which is generally located below the sink. Turn off the water supply and turn on faucets to relieve any pressure.

Place a bucket under the tubing to catch any drips and then use a wrench to loosen the nut at the top of the P-shaped drain pipes. Use the same wrench to disconnect the water supply lines.

Then, use a utility knife to cut the seal between the vanity top or backsplash and the wall.

Pull on the sink or vanity top to remove it from the wall, and then remove the sink top from the vanity base.

Once the top is removed, use a drill to remove the screws from the vanity base and remove it from the wall as well.

Install Your New Vanity

Once you’ve removed your old vanity, it’s time to install a new bathroom vanity! Position the new vanity where you want it to go and trace its outline onto the wall. Use a stud finder to locate and mark studs. You will also need to measure, mark, and drill holes in your vanity base for drain and supply pipes.

After your planning and marking, attach the vanity to the wall using 3-inch drywall screws and wall anchors if needed. At this point in the installation, make sure the vanity is level.

Install the Faucet

Put together the faucet and drain the sink before attaching the faucet to the new vanity. Place a gasket on the faucet and then screw on fastening nuts. Now your faucet is ready to be inserted into the appropriate holes in the vanity. Use an adjustable wrench to attach the water supply line to the new faucet.

Once the faucet is inserted, attach your top to the vanity base using caulk and make sure it is level. At this point, you can add a backsplash if desired.

Reconnect the faucet supply lines to the water supply and reconnect to P-shaped drain pipes. Turn on the water supply and check for any leaks that may be present. Finally, install the pop-up drain.
